It’s More Than Just a Game…
Gambling Prevention Program for Teens
About the Program
The ACCG Gambling Prevention Program for Teens is coordinated through a contact with middle schools. The overall goal of the program is to deliver gambling prevention education to eighth grade middle school students. The program would take place in each middle school in the county through a prevention website module developed and hosted by the Alabama Council on Compulsive Gambling (ACCG).
Program Format
Presentation
Students will be shown examples and asked to respond individually through the module. Once the student responses are tabulated, the correct answer will be shown to the entire group and the ACCG representative will immediately educate the students on the question through prevention education.
In-Person Program
A representative from ACCG will visit each school to conduct the survey module with groups of eighth grade students in a technology classroom that allows each student to be on a computer or tablet. Students will complete a computer module lesson that surveys the students by displaying examples of different aspects of gambling and gaming advertisements and scenarios.
Nature Field Trip
Students will be shown examples and asked to respond individually through the module. Once the student responses are tabulated, the correct answer will be shown to the entire group and the ACCG representative will immediately educate the students on the question through prevention education.
On-Line Program
For home school, Summer school, or other programs that want a flexible option, we provide two options for utilizing our program. Groups may join a live webinar that is modeled after the in-person presentation. A self-guided program is also available, and parents, teachers, and counselors will be able to preview before enrolling their students.
